's the case now. as we watch cecil county, maryland's most powerful doppler radar and this, the back edge of a line of storms that extends towards philadelphia. 95, jersey turnpike, bad shape, they have heavy lightning and rain coming through now. we have more showers behind it. we were active in northern baltimore county up towards york and eastern pennsylvania. more on back towards hagerstown though that seems to be falling apart. there's more on back towards the west as we're going to track this back into the mountains, with the flare-up, snowshoe west virginia and skyline drive and southwestern western sections of virginia itself. in central virginia, look at the enhancement of some showers developing over the last half-hour. that may get pulled in our direction. we got a charged atmosphere. it's in response to a cold front that will be trying to sweep through the area later today and through tomorrow. currently, 80 at 9:00 a.m. 79 easton. factor in the humidity and it already feels like 86 in both spots. a little cooler towards york because showers rolled through earlier but needless

here, if you're riding the marc train, lynch to this. the maryland transportation secretary wants all commuter rail riders to know that severe heat could cause delays. the heat can cause problems with equipment, such as locomotives which can be pushed to the limit and air conditioning in passenger cars. the lines, power, some of the penn line trains could buckle under pressure. there are delays on all three marc lines yesterday. >>> we're used to scorching heat in phoenix and tucson, but it's been happening much closer to home. all around the state it's been dangerously hot. sheryl connor shows us, yesterday frederick was making headlines nation-wide. >> reporter: triple digits is one thing, the hottest city in the nation is another. >> this is a microwave. >> chart topper goes to frederick maryland. 106 degrees on tuesday, hotter than phoenix and las vegas. but it's no sweat for allen gilbert who says the heat helps his 50-year-old body on the tennis courts. >> we need the heat to keep these old joints loose. >> reporter: as the temperature climbs, most people take a dip. >> i wouldn

it on the board, what is really neat, coming up on saturday, alumni game between maryland and hopkins, how much fun will that be? >> it's a great time, great lacrosse day. >> who's going to be there? >> that's hard to say, just because you're going to run the gamut. people in their 30s and 40s are still playing. some of the old school guys, there's maybe, lou geiger, recent graduates. a lot of our team is actually from the area. we have some of the best defense men on our team. >> you guys still play in the club. on the screen, saturday night, 7:00, you pull in the audience. >> a lot of kids come in, get paired up with a player, go on the field, depending on their level of experience or play, the players of the team give back. it's been an hour-long. fantastic day. the kids stay for the game. >> when you were a kid, what player did you look up to? >> john lannon, you know, it was a small, close community. everyone gets along. >> we always say it's the hot bed here, out in denver, how many were out there? >> between 2 and 3,000. it was fantastic. we lost, but it was a great venue for lacrosse. >

and get cookies and juice. >>> now, the forecast certified most accurate by weather rate and maryland's most powerful doppler radar. >> we have the rain falling once again on our tower cam, and we have a light drizzle out there, temperatures into the 70s. westerly wind at 5:00, but the real story is the humidity. the rain will stay for the remainder of the afternoon. very spotty in nature. the heaviest of the rain confined over northern carroll county and making its way into baltimore county. some of these rainfall rates inside this cell anywhere from a half rinch to 3/4". you're going to have an issue in the northern portions in the county for the remainder of the afternoon. it's going to be a muggy day. we still have the flood watch in effect for cecil county. temperatures out there into the 70s, very muggy morning out there. 70 degree dewpoint in downtown. 75 degree dewpoint down to the east. when we see the dewpoints, it's like a measure of the moisture in the atmosphere. here's the storm now, it's an upper level low sitting over our region, and it will keep an unstable atmosphere

of pediatrics at the university of maryland hospital for children. she says the first sign of heat stress in kids can be tricky to spot. >> there may not be signs to begin with. prevention is really the key, like everything else for children who are just getting acclimated to new climates or new activities in the heat, it's real important they stay hydrated beforehand. >> reporter: that means making sure your child drinks plenty of water at least 15 minutes before going outside. the second sign of heat exhaustion is lots of sweating. >> if their clothes are sopping wet it's time to sort of change the clothes because they are losing a lot of heat. a lot of moisture. a lot of their ability to cool themselves. and so that's the time to sort of think -- are they hydrated enough? have they had enough fluids? can i get them in dry clothes so they can continue or better yet, get them into a cooler climate. >> reporter: the third sign, fatigue. >> kids love to play, to be active. if they are even showing themselves that they are not as active as they were or just seem to be sort of, you know, no
